Readers Journal #5

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I currently just finished a book called A KISS IN TIME. This book is by Alex Flinn. My favorite part of this book was on page 22 (on the nook) it read " The last thoughts as i hit the ground is, I should have listen to Lady Brooke." that was thought that was amazing that when something bad happens and you know that you were warned but you still do it then regret it later.

I used looking on the title also I used reading recommending articles.

During I thought about the plot and I summarizing after each chapter.

Last when I finished I used I thought about the book and related the book to my life then related it to fairy tales since it is a folktale.

A folktale is a modern version of a fairy tale for example Beauty and the Beast to the book and movie Beastly.

The characters in this book were Talia, Jack, King, Queen, Meryl, Travis, Lady Brooke and Amber. These are all round characters and the foil were all normal people and peasants in a village. The antagonist was Mavolia an evil witch she was not round but flat.

This book was in  Miami and Europe. The social conditions were normal. The temperature was hot and dry. I know   that because it say it hardly rains here in  the book and they say also they sweat a lot so that means it must be hot there. The time period is three hundred and sixteen years because that is Talia's age and the book starts the day she was born.

The main conflict is external. It is because of the fact that it is them together.

The mood is this book is happy because she thinks she found her true love and that makes me happy for her. The tone is happy because the author sounds happy. Also the theme and motif is love because it is romantic <3.

The moral of the story is to think of others because it is showing two strangers learning to care for one anther. In this book the point of view is first person because in the book you know their feelings.  Also the pattern of organization is chapter.

The authors purpose was to entertain. The author's perspective was unbais because it talks about both characters thoughts. Also the it is objective.

Their are lots of Text Features in this book. One is titles to chapters, Table of Contents, quotes, italicized words, and lastly about the authors.

There is also lots of figurative langue. In this book there was simile, medifore, personification, alliteration, sarcasm, that was it.

I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 I would because of the fact I could never put it down. Also, I love every sentence. I would recommend this to all girls.

Sincerely,

Gabriella Goldstein

Readers Journal #4

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I currently finished a book called BOYS ARE DOGS by Leslie Margolis. In this book one quote that stuck  out to me was on page 31 " I went inside my room and told my mom I was ready to go to the mall." I choose that passage I can relate to it by always telling my mom I am ready for the mall because I love the mall. I used many strategies for this book. My two begun were skimming and scanning. Then during I related the book to myself and checked for text features. Last strategies I used after reading strategies re-reading what I didn't understand also thinking about the main idea.

The genre in this book was realistic fiction. Some characteristics were that it took place in modern times and characters are involved in events that could happen.
In this book the protagonist is Annabelle she is round. The antagonist is Jackson he is flat. The foil are all other kids in school that are all flat.

The setting in this book is in North Hollywood, in the time period of a school year. They did not mention any thing about the weather but the social conditions are normal. In this book the problem was external and man vs. man. The tone and mood was happy.

The theme was life and the moral is you can learn from a book. The POV is 1st person because she talks about her feelings. The P.O.O. was chapters.
In this book the Arther's purpose was to entertain and inform. The Arther's objective was subjective and bias.

There was not a lot of figurative language in this book but their was metaphor, simile, personification, and exaggeration but that is all.
I would rate this boom a 5 out of 5 because I was never confused by too big of a word or bored in a chapter. I would recommend this book to girls in middle school.

Sincerely,
Gabriella Goldstein :)

Readers Journal #3

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I just finished a book called DRAMA QUEEN. This book is written by Lara Bergen. My favorite passage in this book is small and simple "What if Kyle really did like her?" I thought this was my favorite passage because it is something that runs through every girls head at some point does he like me. Before reading this book I looked at the cover and skimmed and scanned. During reading I related the book to myself and checked for text features. Last I used after reading strategies re-reading what I didn't understand also thinking about the main idea.

This genre is realistic fiction. I know that because it can happen in real life but it did not. A summery statement of this would be "When Charlie and her best friend Nicole audition for the junior high musical, they dont expect so much drama. Charlie gets stuck babysitting her little sister at rehearsals, and the schools theater diva has it out for her. When the curtain finally goes up, the spotlight falls on something no one expects." this is implied. I had to give anther name for this book it would most likely be ACTING I would because it is about a girl wanting to go in a play. In this book the main idea is implied but three things support it her always talking about the play, having drama, and shining (these are all sensory). The Essential Message of this book was Being able to shine. The cause was Charlie wanted to be in a play the effect was she got in the play.  The text features were chapter titles to give a hint about the chapter, quotes to see who's talking, bold to see important words, TOC to tell where stuff is,and about the author to know who the author is. The pattern of organization is chapters because it tells. The authors purpose was to show anyone can be a star. The author's perspective was opinioned, objective, and bias also the POV was first person. The tone was happy the mood was curious. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 because it was detailed and i could not put it down.

Sincerely,
Gabriella :)

Reader's Journal #2

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I currently just finished a book called "Are You There G-d It Is Me, Margaret". The author's name is Judy Blume she is a popular author that I have unfortunately not read many of her books. In this book the main character is a protagonist named Margaret Simon.
Margaret has the conflict of every girl going through their changes. She is almost 12 and has an amazing secret club with other friends who are girls. They talk about boys for example how cute Philip Leroy is (the cutest boy in sixth grade), bras, and also getting their first period. One passage that I love she wrote on May 25th is a letter to her teacher named Mr. Benedict , "Dear Mr. Benedict, I have conducted a yearlong experiment in religion. I have not come to any conclusions about what religion I want to be when I grow up--If I want to be any special religion at all. I have read three books on this subject. They are: Modern Judaism, A History of Christianity, and Catholicism--Past and Present. I went to Church at the services at the first Presbyterian Church of Far brook. I went to the United Methodist Church of Far brook on Christmas Eve. I attended Temple Israel of New York city on Rosh Hashana, which is a Jewish holiday. I went to confession at Saint Bartholomew Church, but I had to leave the Confessional because I didn't know what to say. I have not tried being a Buddhist or a Moslem because I do not know any people of that religions. I have not really enjoyed my religious experiments very much and I don't think I'll make up my mind one way or the other for a long time. I don't think a person can decide to be a certain religion just like that. It's like having to choose you own name. You think about it a long time and then you keep changing your mind. If I should ever have children I will tell them what religion they are so they can start learning about it at an early age. Twelve is late very late to learn. Sincerely, Margaret Ann Simon."

Before reading this book I skimmed and Scanned and found letters, lots of talking, and no titles for the chapters or TOC. During reading I used reading back and reviewing also relating it to my life. Last  I did two after reading strategies thinking what the books main idea was and thinking about what I read. The genre of this book is Realistic Fiction because it can happen to a real person. A few characters are Moose Freed - Evan's friend and a boy Margaret takes an interest in, Nancy, Gretchen, and Margaret the girls in her club. Those are some important  characters. This all happened in the suburbs during the school year. The conflict is man vs. self because she is wants to have her body mature. The tone of this book was happy and the mood was happy also, the theme is changes, and the  point of view is first person because Margret herself is talking about her feelings from her own perspective.

I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 because it was detailed and I can relate to it. I would recommend this to 11-14 year old girls.

Sincerely,
Gabriella Goldstein :)
