Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I currently finish a book called THE MONKEY'S PAWS I was a decent book. It was by W. W. Jacobs a new author to me that I researched about and it said that he was born in 1863 in London, England. I also found out that his mother, Sophia, died when he was young I don't know what of. Last I found out that he wrote The Skipper’s Wooing (1897), Sea Urchins (1898), Light Freights (1901), Captains’ All (1902), Sailors’ Knots (1909), and Night Watches (1914). That is lots of books!
In this book one part stuck out to me. It read "[H]e found the monkey’s paw, and frantically breathed his third and last wish. The knocking ceased suddenly . . . a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The street lamp flickering opposite shone on a quiet and deserted road. " I had a hard time interpreting this. All I can think it is scary.
Before reading this book I read reviews. I did that because I don't want to get a book and drop it. That would most likely offend the book :P. I also did anther strategy before reading this book I asked around to see if any of my friends read the book and none did. I did that because a friends opinion is very important.
I used a no during reading strategy. I used after reading strategies. I first thought about what I read that helped by showing I understood what I read. Then I wrote this readers journal that helps me remember what I read. Last, I reread what I did not understand that helped by allowing me understand what I read that I didn't before.
The genre in this book is Horror short story. I know that because the author opens the story in a dark stormy night. That is really scary sounding and it is a short story because it is short and can be read in just one sitting.
The characters in this book are Herbert White, Mrs. White, Mr. White, Sergeant-Major Morris and The Representative. The setting in this story is in London (I guess). The social conditions are poor and the weather is gloomy. Last the time is summer.
The main idea of this book is how no one can control their where they are going to be in life. This is man VS. self and is internal. The tone in this book was mysterious and the mood was scared. The motif was Groups of Three. The theme in this book is the danger of dreaming. the moral of this story is _______.
The P.O.V was 3rd person and the P.O.O was chronological order. I know that because it is a sequence of events in number order. The authors purpose in this book is to entertain and the authors perceptive is unbars and objective. In this book there was a lot of figurative language like similes, metaphors, personification, and last onomatopoeia.
I would rate this book a 5 out of ten because it confused me a lot and I got bored well reading it. I would not recommend this book to any one.

Title: Will Steven Job’s final vendetta haunt Google?
Author: Michael Lytle
Source: The Miami Herald
The topic of the article is theft
The main idea of the article is: The main idea of the article is that one of Steve Job's creations, the Iphone has been stolen by Google and changed it into the Android, and the effect of it.
This is stated in the article.
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because this article is Steve Job’s angry with Google taking his idea of an iphone to an android.
The pattern of organization of the article is cause and effect because it is Google taking his idea and then him getting angry.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is the author wants to show the chain of events.
The text features included in the article are subtitle that helps by giving us extra information on what the article is about, picture helps by letting the reader know what Steve Jobs looked like, and the source that helps by
This article is about (a summary in your own words) That Google took Steve Job’s idea and mad it to their own and that made Steve angry.
Current Events Journal
The significance (importance) of this article is that to let everyone know Google took Steve’s idea
What I learned from this article is to never plagiarize because the other person will find out.
What I liked about this article is that it argued both sides.
What I did not like about it is that Google took a product and made it their own and mainly just changed the name of the device.
Who should read this article and why? You should read this article to be informed about what Google has done to take from Apple.
This article reminds me of the time I saw someone cheating of my homework and turned it in saying they worked hard on it. I never actually read an article or book just like this one. This is very comment with people taking others ideas and saying it was theirs instead of giving the credit to the real inventor of the idea.
New vocabulary I learned
| Word | Context Clue | Meaning |
| 1. Vendetta | Will Steven Job’s final vendetta haunt Google? | Private fight |
| 2. Infuriated | Mad or angry | Mad |
| 3.bureaucracy | eliminate bureaucracy | body of officials |

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I just finish a book called ZOOBREAK. This book is by a new author to me named Gorden Korden. On page ? I saw a sentence that stuck out to me it read "You're the one who said a plan is never finished until you've considered all the possibilities". I believe that this is true because you never are done with your goal in life.
Before reading this book I used two before reading strategies. First I looked at the cover I saw their was animals. That was great to me because i love animals! I also realized that it was dark unhappy colors that was not a positive thought about the book to me. Although, I continued to go on to my second strategy. Second I used searching for text features. I found lots of talking which I loved because when people talk I get more into the book and feel like I am standing next to who ever is talking.
During reading I also used two strategies. First I made predictions I predicted that the animals in the zoo will break out.My prediction was right! I was glad that I was correct :). I also I looked at illustrations when I read to understand the book better. That really helped when I got confused at parts.
After reading this book I did two after reading strategies. First I wrote this readers journal on what this book is about. Then I thought about the main idea of this book which is when a class goes to a zoo and she animals being treated badly and then the zookeeper kidnapped the animals. The main idea is implied and man vs. man.
In this book the genre is mystery. I know that for two reasons. First it says in the book and second they are trying to find the animals. The characters in this book are a monkey named Cleopatra, Savannah who is the animal expert, Antonia (she climbs well), Melissa who is into Technology, Logan an Actor, Ben the Smallest , and Griffin the burglar and also the antagonist. The foil in this book is the other students and animals in the zoo.
This story was taken place mostly in zoo. The time was the school year. I know that because in the book they are going to take a school trip (SCHOOL). The climate is average not too hot and not too cold. The social conditions are normal school year with no bullies.
This book the exposition was in paragraphs 5 and 6. The rising action is when the students saw Cleoptra. The climax was breaking the animals out of the zoo. Then the falling action was taking care of all the zoo animals. The resolution in this book was when they caught the thief.
The tone and mood in this book were the same. They were both mysterious. The moral is adventure and the theme of this book is suspense. The P.O.V in this book is 3rd person and the P.O.O is chronological order. The authors purpose was to entertain and the perspective was unbiased and objective. In this book figurative language are only similes and personification.
I would rate this book a 7 out of 10. I would because it was ok not great. I got confused at times and I don't like mystery that much.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I currently finished a book called PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. This book is by a new author to me named Sara Shepard. My favorite part of this book is on page 21 it said " The first thing she saw when she pulled up to Alison's old Victorian on the top of the leafy street was a huge pill of trash on the curb and a big sign marked FREE! Squinting, she realized that some of it was Alison's stuff-she recognized Ali's old, overstuffed white corduroy bedroom chair. The DiLaurentis moved away nine months ago. Apparently they left something behind."
That passage was different to me because I think that is how it really all the drama and mystery started. I think that because if I were in their issue I would find something suspicious going one. I would think why is her stuff outside when she almost didn't live in that house for like a year already. Why was it outside just marked "FREE!”? What happened? Did she die or does she just need some more cash?
Before reading this book I looked at the cover. I saw on the cover a Barbie. I thought that was strange but I do love girly things like babies so it was good so far. I also saw the color of the background was yellow which to me is a happy color and I like happy books. Last I realized that the Title was in script and that is all fancy so I decided it was going to be a good book by the look.
Before I read this book I asked some friends about this book and my sister because she read it. They all said it was a great book and I should read it. So I did!
During reading I thought of what I read. I thought about how might of killed her.
I also asked why would they want to kill her. I thought maybe because she was propeller and that person was jealous of her. Or, maybe because she bullied that person because most popular girls or even boys can be very mean, careless, and just plain out rude.
After I finished I rethought what I read. I also thought of predictions on which the "A" is but still it remains unknown.
Last, I wrote this Readers Journal on what I have read in this book and also reflected on what I read.
This book is mystery. I know that because I had to put clues together. Also it put hints in it.
The characters in this book are Alison DiLaurentis, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Spencer, Mona, Vanderwaal, Aria, DiLaurentis family (holder Alison’s funeral). These are all round characters. The foil in this book is the other kids in school. The antagonist is the "A".
This story took place in Rosewood, which I don't know where that is. Their social conditions are middle class. The weather was they live is seasonal.
The main issue in this book is that Alison is gone and no one knows who took her if she is maybe alive. There is no ending yet because it is a series of books and this is only the first. This issue was external and also it was man vs. man to find her.
I think Alison is dead. I do because why would a person just hold her hostage instead of just eliminate her. That is only my thought I don't know for sure.
The tone in this book is mysterious and the mood is nervous. The theme of this book is two can keep a secret if one of them is dead. Pretty Little Liars is a teen book that actually has no moral in the book.
The POV in this book is first person because of the fact they tell what the characters thinks. The POO in this book is chapters. In this book the author’s purpose is to entertain. The authors perspective is unbiased and objective. In this book the figurative langue is simile, metaphor, personification, and last analogy. Sadly that is it.
I would rate this book a five out of five because it never lost my attention. I would recommend this book to everyone 13 teen and up.

Readers Journal #7
Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I just finished a great biography book that is called THE STORY OF WALT DISNEY THE MAKER OF MAGICAL WORLDS. This book is by Bernice Selden a new author to me. I found out of this book by my nook recommending this book to me. One passage that stuck out to me was on page 10 " One pig, Porky, was especially fond of Walt." That stuck out to me because Porky Pig is one of my mom's favorite Disney character and until I told her she thought he just made it up from his head. Also it says "fond of Walt" I thought that stuck out because today we have ipods and think it is the world but he just had a pig.
Before reading this book I used looking at the title. I thought that helped because usually you can assume what a book is about from the title. I saw it said Disney and I love Disney world so I loved the book on what I saw so far.
Also, I skimmed and scanned for text features. I saw a TOC (table of contents), and lots of talking and I love when there is talking in books it really animates it. I also saw something I have never seen before it was a about the book I thought that was a great idea.
For during reading I used thinking of what I read. I thought about how I would do on a farm (not bad). Also I highlighted all the characters names so I don't forget them. That was very helpful.
After I thought of the moral. The moral is believed in your dreams. Last, I used rereading what I did not understand in the book.
This book was a biography. I know that because Bernice Selden wrote about Walt Disney. Which makes it a biography not an autobiography.
In this book there is no antagonist. The main character is Walt Disney. Walt Disney is round. Other characters are Elias, Ruth, Herbert, Roy, Raymond, Porky, Rupert, Diane and Sherwood. Those are all flat. The foil in this book is other farmer.
The main setting in this book is on a farm. The social conditions are low class. I know that because it says it is hard to even get food. The weather in this book is sunny because they say some times it doesn't rain for two months.
The main issue in this book is he tiring to reach his dreams in life and make a fun place for kids. The problem is external because he wants it for the world. The conflict is character vs. self.
The tone in this book is happy and the mood elated. The moral is to believe in you to achieve. The theme is work hard to succeed. The POV in this book is 3rd person. The POO in this book is chapters.
The author’s purpose in this book is to inform about the person who invented Disney World. The author’s perspective is unbars and objective.
I n this book I saw a little of figurative langue. I saw similes, metaphors, personification, and that was it sadly.
I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 (*****). I would because it was detailed. Also because it was interesting. I would recommend this book to EVERYONE.

Readers Journal #6
Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I currently just finished a book called MILTON HERSHEY. The author to this book is Jane Sutcliffe and illustrated by Tim Parlin. I found this book my self with no help at all. My favorite part of this book is on page 53 it said "Failure is was as commen as mud in the oil feilds, little was said about the men who borrowed more then they could afford to lose, and lost it anyway." I thought that was different and really touching because he grew up with everyone telling him that and he still went for his dreams, I might have lost hope after a while but he was strong and kept going for his dreams.
I used two before reading strategies. the first one was looking at the title page. the book looked interesting and i realized that he was in a picture frame and the photo of him was black and white that must mean he is dead by now. I also used looking at the table of contents to determine what the chapters are all about. I liked what I saw so I read.
During read I skimmed and scanned for text features. Also I thought about what I read after each chapter I was getting bored. I was about to abandon it but I could not finish another book in time for this readers journal.
After I finish I used more strategies. I wrote this readers journal on it to comprehend I read it. I also used thinking of what I read. I thought how different his life was to my life in modern day like today I think of chocolate as a normal thing to have but back then it was new and unique, I guess.
This genre is biography. I know that because it talking about his life and how he grew up thought of the idea of milk chocolate. The topic of this book is to never give up because making milk chocolate was hard to invent but since he never gave up we now have Hershey milk chocolate or milk chocolate in general. The theme is go for your dreams.
The main idea of this book is a successful chocolate maker who built a town around his factory with unique housing for his workers and students. This was implied. Anther name for this book should be KISS. I think that would be great title for this book because his Hershey kisses are very known today. The evidence is he opened a school for kids is factual, he is known today for his chocolate today is factual, and also him being so kind (is sensory) to others like not going on a vacation and instead stating home with his sick wife is factual. The moral of this story is don't ever forget your dreams.
There are many text features in this book. One is having a table of content that helps because you can look at it to see where a chapter is located. Another is italicized words which emphasizes word, and pictures to see what is happening, Also, captions to see what is going on in a picture just in case you don't understand what the picture means. Lastly, dialogue to understand the situation the character is in.
The P.O.O in this book is chapters. I know it is because there is chapters in this book. The authors perspective in this book was 3rd person. I know that because it is a BIOgraphy. The authors purpose was to inform about Milton Hershey and his accomplishments in life. The author was objective and unbiased.
In this book the figurative language is similes, metaphors, and personification.
The characters are Milton Hershey's wife, and him. She is static and he is round. Some character traits of Milton Hershey is confident, kind, and fair.
I would rate this book a 1 out of 5 because it was bad
andboring.
Love,
